Past Perfect Tense

Past Perfect Tense is the unbroken part of tenses. This tense aids us to know the work or action finished or completed in the past. Past Perfect is used to express the feeling the same as present Perfect but the only difference is time. Past Perfect is obviously referring to the Past.

Helping Verb – Had
Main Verb – V3
6 conditions
Sentences end in Hindi with  ा  था ी थी े थे, चुका था, चुकी थी, चुके थे, etc.

Simple

Sub + had + V3 + object.
Example ──
Susmita had explained to me.

Negative

Sub + had + not + V3 + object.
Example ──
Susmita had not explained to me.

Interrogative

Had + sub + V3 + object?
Example ──
Had susmita explained to me?

 

Interrogative Negative

Had + sub + not + V3 + object?
Example ──
Had susmita not explained to me?

Double Interrogative

W/H family + had + sub + V3 + object?
Example ──
When had susmita explained to me?

 

Double Interrogative Negative

W/H family + had + sub + not + V3 + object?
Example ──

Past Perfect Tense Rules

To describe an action completed before a certain moment in the past.
Example ──
I met him in New Delhi in 2014. I had seen him last ten years before.

Past perfect should be used only when we wish to say that one action completed before the other started. It should never be used at all in any other sense.
Example ──
I had gone to Mumbai when sumit came to meet me.
